MicroPIM for Ceramic Components
MicroPIM is another high-volume, near-net shaping production method now available to you from Ceramco. While similar in concept and production volume to Ceramco’s other HPIM (high speed injection molding) microPIM technology differs in its ability to output highly-configured, complex-shaped ceramic parts as small as 0.05 Grams.
Ceramco’s microPIM utilizes many of the alumina or zirconia production formulations Ceramco currently uses for its high volume manufacturing of larger components. The smaller scale of microPIM requires careful adjustments to the feedstock to achieve a very low viscosity. Otherwise, microPIM is virtually the same process Ceramco has been using successfully for 30 years. Everything is just much smaller.
MicroPIM and Near-Net Shaping
Near-net shaping plays just as important a role for Ceramco’s microPIM as it does for all of Ceramco’s other OEM ceramic parts manufacturing processes, utilizing injection molding. From the initial molding through final firing, even with microPIM, the material waste reduction, minimal follow-up machining (if any) and the overall lower production time and reduced power consumption means lower cost for our customers.
MicroPIM-formed, near-net shaped ceramic components are already found in applications including: fiber-optic ferrules and wire bonding nozzles. Also, they are serving more broadly defined markets including: medical equipment and electrical interconnects.
MicroPIM – Part of Our Scalable, Vertically Integrated OEM Ceramic Parts Production
Order quantity is not a restrictive consideration for the production of small OEM ceramic parts. While Ceramco’s microPIM is targeted for larger production runs, smaller quantities are just as easily (and quickly) manufactured utilizing Ceramco’s LPIM (Low Pressure Injection Molding) process. Our LPIM manufacturing employs the same near-net shaping production concept. For more information on all of Ceramco's forming process methods, please refer to the images and descriptions below.
