Metalizing, Plating
Ceramco is a specialized company. As such, we understand our OEM ceramic parts are (often) only a piece of the bigger picture. Also, we realize the OEM ceramic part we manufacture may itself require further processing in order to be complete. Unlike Ceramco’s matching and pairing sets and basic assembly, which are internal processes, there are others with which we are familiar, but contract out.
One of the contracted-out processes Ceramco can add is the metalizing or plating of our ceramic parts. When the ceramic part’s specification includes metalizing or plating, Ceramco finds the best thick or thin film provider based upon the order’s requirements. The then plated or metalized ceramic part is delivered ready to use.
Thick Film Metalizing Ceramic Parts
Thick film coatings include Molybdenum-Manganese (Mo-Mn) providing excellent adhesion to ceramic parts of Ceramco’s A96 alumina. This can be followed with a barrier diffusion layer of electrolytic pure Nickel (Ni). The third layer of gold (Au) or other precious metal, results in a tightly sealed ceramic to metal assembly ready for the soldering or brazing process.
Thin Film Metalizing Ceramic Parts
Ceramco OEM ceramic parts are excellent electrical insulators. As such, they are inherently non-conductive. When thin conductive film is applied to ceramic parts made of Ceramco’s A96 alumina, their surface is hybridized. This provides a conductive (yet insulated) path for an electric current, functioning like an insulated wire.
People Making it Happen
At Ceramco, our processes do not stop with the manufacture of your OEM ceramic part. Our staff thinks “outside the box” and even outside our own doors. We add value to the ceramic parts we manufacture by their metalizing or plating, meeting the part’s spec and delivering a ceramic part ready to use, saving the customer time.
